It was my birthday and I got cupcakes, georgetown cupcakes. The are obviously tempting so I toke a photo. The cupcake is using the rule of thirds as it sits in the middle. It also has a nice glimmer on it from the chocolate. The cupcake looks very appetizing. There is also the usage of a blur in the background, the cupcake and the foreground is in focus and the background not. The photo very simple but with the pop of blue with the flower and perfect swirl into the flower.

Visual Review 3- Rear Window Vs. “It Had to Be Murder”
When watching Rear Window I came to realize that it is defiantly based off of the short story “It Had to be Murder”. The story of “it had to be Murder” is told more through Jeffries mind and view. The film is told from a further prospective it is less easy to connect with Jeffries. When movies are made from stories or books there is almost always small changes. In the story there is an assistant to Jefferies named Sam, in the movie there is Stella. Grace Kelly plays Jeffries girlfriend in the movie whereas there is no girlfriend in the short story. The movie portrays smaller stories in the big story with Jeffries’s neighbors, in the story there is no inclusion of that in the short story, or the importance is less, for example the women with the dog, the ballerina and Miss Lonely-heart. Towards the end of the story the plot was changed, lard tries to kill Jeffries in a different way. In the film Lars doesn’t die and ends up with two broken legs but in the story Jeffries does. The details shared here are ones that if just watching the movie wouldn’t pay attention to. The story and the movie are similar; Hitchcock does a great job with the film.
Another thought is it is great that the main character is a photographer; it allows him to look to his neighbor’s lives. Hitchcock uses the frame in frame to show the isolation between the neighbors. He also creates drama with all the scenes at night being the dramatic ones. The windows are dividers between characters.

Jaime Nelson Photography Review
I chose the photographer Jaime Nelson, The photos I included I liked the best because of the color as well as interesting way of portraits. The photos are all fun and are displaying the women very beautifully. Most of them are portraits. Jaime is a New York based photographer that specializes in Beauty and fashion. She has been featured in magazines such as Elle, Glamour, Harper’s Bizarre, Vanity Fair, and vogue Internationally. She also has had her work displayed in places such as museums in New York and Rome, billboards, Ads, and publications. The photos that she takes some have messages while others are ads for campaigns or products. The photos all of women, some nude or have a sexual undertone (not included), all photos are taken for women to seem as though they are perfect. Some pictures she tokes were more serious than others. I find this photos intriguing because although they are beauty shots they do take a playful turn with the coloring in accessories as well as the impressions on the women’s faces. The photos with the women with the gumball looking necklace, is my favorite because it plays with the basic hair and background and makeup then pops it with the necklace, the impression on the face is stern and not playful, the other playful photo with the ice cream makes the nails into the sprinkles. She also does this with the women in the red hat; the only color in the picture is the red, but the face is more of a sexual or seductive look with the lips parted a bit. The photo dislike the others of the women all in blue tones with the helping hands is cool but isn’t like most of her work, it is not really a portrait and a little bit less of a glamour or beauty shot. The photos I chose all work with the rule of thirds, in exception to the yellow photo they are all straight on, the yellow from an above angle straight on too. These photos are representative to her work, these ones are the more beauty shots of her work, some are more fashion or glamour or framed different, and these ones just struck my interest because of the color and beauty aspect.
Luminere Video- Making Coffee at The Dav
Maddy and I chose the coffee shop at campus to make our video! The coffee shop full of action, it was a good choice and allowed for more variety in our takes. We tried different angles in our approach as well as vertical vs. horizontal shooting. We chose the last take because it shows a coffee being made from beginning to end as well as used a high angle to flim the action allowing for a good take.
Video Review 1 “Girls Just Gotta Have Fun” Sophie Grace
Since I am a lover of the Ellen show I knew of Sophie Grace, a girl that with her best friend Rosie, appeared on the Ellen show over a year ago, they always appear with there tutus and sing a song or two to Ellen. Originally from England they visit and are always an audience favorite. They are correspondents to the show at award shows and have also branched out into books, dolls and now Sophie Grace has her own original song and music video.
The video starts off with only two scenes, her close-up with a pink background and with her pink toy Cadillac, the car having many close-ups and slow motion shots. She is driving the toy car like a as in a rapper video, however it is pink and she is wearing a crown and tutu, but the music is kind of intense, kind of like rap or hip hop so in a cute hilarious way it works. The video flashes back and forth with the beat between the two scenes, using the flare or flash effect between scenes. She then goes into another verse and her friend Rosie is there, they are acting they are going to party which plays with the idea that they are so young. There is another introduction of a scene with her in the center in a big powerful chair that is pink and silver establishing the theme more, and also playing after her English heritage. There is a subtle advertisement for Beats when she presses the button on the speaker. The effects are cool with flashes and the lighting with pink and yellow. There are a lot of slow downed actions. The video matches with music very easily and flows. The video continues with her in the club dancing with all little kids and in the driveway and at the picnic table. When she begins to rap the video switches between different scenes but she is doing the same dance move form scene to scene to keep consistency. She is in the middle of the scene but when it switches to the pink background the camera moves around and has the flash effect on it. She references Super Bass, Nicki Minaji’s song, as that is her favorite artist and her as the princess, and Ellen as the Queen, a reference to the queen of England that Ellen started her career per say! This vides is similar to the video we watched in class with the Martha’s Vineyard Men for Smirnoff. The people aren’t “supposed” to be like that, but they look the way they always do. The video has a funny element to it with kids and partying and hip-hop like element mixed with the child voice. I like the video as a fan of the Ellen show. The video is clean and effective for its purpose while also being intresting to watch.
Photo Word 2- Low Angle
I toke this photo from the ground, there is blur in the foreground of the grass and then clarity of the grass and then blur with the tree and SIS building in the background. I chose this photo because it takes the grass and makes it important compared to the SIS building and tree. The angle that the photo is on is also interesting, it is tilted. This photo has a bit of serenity as well, with the hard building in the back and soft nature in the front.
Photo Essay
This photo essay features the close up of girls. I found when shooting my original idea that the face was so investing, when asking girls to show any emotion they wanted most where happy but others just showed a stern or questioning look. I framed each photo showing simply the face, i chose to shot at night to create the black background, this highlighting the girls. Each photos the face is in focus.
10 Photos, Plus 1
- The pear creates an organic shape while the heart is a defined noticeable shape. This photo utilizes the rule of thirds as well as blurring in the opposite corner
- Portrait
- This photo struck my interest because of the questioning nature of the girl mixed with her worried look. This makes the viewer wonder about what the girl is looking at.
- High angle
- Literally tempting. The cookies are a dark chocolate color while in a completely white and light environment. The cookies are stacked on the side of the photo and the cup of milk in the background is blurred. There is also a few crumbs that convey the tempting nature… like Hansel and Gretel leaving a path
- This woman is on a mission. The photo from this prospective shows the world around her while also hiding her face, creating mystery. She is in the middle of the photo and the middle of the two buildings. It also looks very European.
- Plus 1- Silhouette
- I toke this photo on the river for my first word shape. The bridge is a silhouette but creates a lot of shape, there are many triangle x’s and angles. The photo taken from a low angle with majority of the lines going towards the right corner. There is also some moss on the bridge that make a soft appearance.
